Custom Synthesis

We provide custom synthesis of Group 14 nanocrystals specializing in silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC), silicon nitride (Si3N4), germanium (Ge), silica (SiO2), silicon germanium alloy nanomaterials and nanocomposite polymers. Our expertise allows controlled size dispersity, composition and surface modification to tailor size-dependent optical and electronic properties which enable nanomaterial use in a wide range of applications such as fluorophores for biological imaging and photovoltaics. Please contact us about your custom synthesis needs.

Materials Characterization

AQM has expertise with state-of-the-art analytical instruments at the University of Alberta NanoFAB.  Modified particles can be characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) - to test quality of coating and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) - to test thermal stability, UV-Vis and solid-state NMR. Please contact us if you need analysis or materials characterization using these instruments.

Particle Characterization

With our new Litesizer 500 particle size analyzer, we can characterize particles from 0.3 nm to 10 μm;  analyze particle size measurements by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), acquire zeta potential via ELS measurements, and acquire Molecular Mass and Refractive Index measurements.

With our ViscoQC 300 viscometer, we can run dynamic viscosity measurements on any sample, including those that are liquid to semi-solid.

Our expertise allows controlled size dispersity, composition and surface modification to tailor
size-dependent optical and electronic properties.

AQM can process small custom orders and is open to engaging in joint research and development projects to incorporate your production processes.

Consulting

The AQM team has broad expertise, knowledge and understanding of nanomaterials and their potential applications in a variety of areas. We support companies and research institutes using our expertise and advise them on how to optimize products and processes. Besides undertaking feasibility studies, AQM can process small custom orders and is open to engaging in joint research and development projects to incorporate your production processes. In this way, your ideas can be tested and strategies developed for future contract research projects. AQM makes use of its own expertise and equipment in the areas of synthesis, surface modification and analysis to benefit our customers.
