Nanostructured Silica

SiO2_NRs.jpg

Silica based 1-dimensional nanomaterials can be used as cost-effective reinforcing fillers for polymers due to the low toxicity and natural abundance of silica. Silica nanorods, nanofibers with various morphologies (porous/nonporous) and variable aspect ratios (width/length) have been developed by AQM. We also have the capability of functionalizing the nanomaterial surface to add additional properties such as hydrophobicity, UV blocking, anti-bacterial, and conductive features. Applications for these nanostructured materials include additive fillers for polymers for use in thin films, coatings and tires.
